MATERIAL CULTURE: THE OBJECT IN BRITISH ART OF THE 1980S AND 90S, THE HAYWARD GALLERY, LONDON, ENGLAND, 1997
03 April - 18 May 1997
MATERIAL CULTURE aimed to continue the Hayward's commitment to working with living artist and provided a context for the work of the young British artists who had been making headlines in shows from Minneapolis to Paris. It was designed to bring into conjunction works not normally seen together, to break down prevailing stylistic and generational categories and to encourage new interpretations of the works.
Among the works on display were Gormley's FRUITS OF THE EARTH (1978-79) and STILL FALLING I (1990/91).
