American Field (1991) was originally made with the help of the Texca family, brickmakers in the Parish of San Matias, Cholula, Mexico. It was first exhibited at Salvatore Ala Gallery, New York from 23 March to 27 April 1991. The work then toured to the following venues in USA, Mexico and Canada between 1992 and 1993: Centro Cultural Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City, Mexico (30 January - 29 March 1992); Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA, USA (3 October - 9 December 1992); The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, USA (13 February - 11 April 1993); and Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, Quebec, Canada (13 May - 19 September 1993).
