The inaugural IHME Project for the Pro Arte Foundation, Clay And The Collective Body (2009), brought together clay and Helsinki locals in a purpose built, humidified pneumatic building. The public had the opportunity to work on and with a huge 2.5 × 4 × 4m clay cube weighing 100,000 kilograms, to use it to make objects of any kind, big or small, alone or with others. The clay was intended to be both a challenge and a shared bodily experience, allowing an opportunity for meditative, concentrated activity with an emphasis on non-verbal, bodily communication.
