Starting with a river stone found in Cumbria, I wanted to try to activate a stone’s ‘skin’ by carving concentric lines around its surface.

This process continues in the meandering lines of the 

 series, and then into the regularly spaced lines of 

, which is inserted, to half its height, into the floor.

This linear activation develops further with the 

, where the outlines of my hands are repeated both within and without the silhouette to cover the entire surface. This idea is translated into 

– a number of Portland and black basalt stones with a single outline of my hand and arms as a marker of where the stone has been lifted and held.
